Value Statement

We offer consulting services for executives of small to medium-sized companies delivering products or services involving high-tech development.

We know that our value to clients is not based on any particular technical knowledge, but on maturity of judgement, objectivity, and ability to articulate new perspectives on problems. The way we are most useful is as sounding board, stimulator of ideas, angel's/devil's advocate, and counselor of managers bringing both technique and insight to the process of managing.

Our business is based on putting the clients' interests first. Ethics are important, and we subscribe to the ethics code of the Institute of Management Consultants (imcusa.org), but equally important is the trust that clients put in our judgement. We will never recommend actions we believe will harm the clients' business in the short or long term, and we will vigorously promote actions which we believe will improve both the climate and the execution of business for the client.

The value of consulting services depends on agreed-on impact on business processes in the client's context. We expect to come to agreement on that value and the intended impact before a engagement is started. Whenever possible, we offer alternatives to the client, providing a variety of levels of engagement at a number of levels of cost. Any time that the value to the client is not perceived to be many times the cost, we will not accept the engagement.

We plan to bring both an insider's view and an outsider's view to the engagement. As an insider, we will have studied the industry, processes, and technology related to the client's business. As an outsider, we bring a fresh perspective, untainted by company politics and cultural belief systems. The synthesis of these two perspectives means that our results may be surprising, challenging, and novel; but never irrelevant.

We always respect the client, but never too much to challenge the client's thinking; we are always loyal to the client, but never to the point of agreeing to take useless or improper actions; we intend always to deliver the best result to the client, but never by taking something away from others.
